Endorsements and toss-ups
A clear endorsement names a fictional candidate when the record and the odds both support it. A toss-up is the honest call when they do not. Every card has a reason. Where editors depart from the formula, the card says so.

Texas · Governor
2026 gubernatorial election
Endorse Harlow Singh
Formula: Endorse Harlow Singh
Singh is not a maximal reformer on the emergency order — the alignment is a one, not a two — and Holm is more likely to win. The forfeiture difference is large, the weighted scores still separate cleanly, and winnability of 3 clears the floor. Editors endorse Singh and say out loud that the emergency half of the record is only a lean. Both candidates are fictional.

Texas · Attorney general
2026 attorney general election
Endorse Ida Pell
Formula: Endorse Ida Pell
If the attorney general owns the forfeiture docket, Pell is the strategic vote: favored, and committed to stopping convictionless filings. Abern would expand them. The model is a placeholder — real attorney general powers vary — and the call is only as good as that premise. Pell is not a real candidate.

Texas · Legislature
2026 legislative elections
Endorse Esther Cho
Formula: Endorse Esther Cho
Cho is favored and is on the right side of both statutes this office writes. Kerr would add license crimes. Unlike the New Hampshire legislative toss-up, winnability here is a 4, so the 'one seat is not a majority' caution does not erase the call. It does limit it: an endorsement of a slate is not a promise the bill will pass. Cho is fictional.

Texas · Judiciary
2026 judicial elections
Endorse June Pellham
Formula: Endorse June Pellham
The formula endorses Pellham because Geddes has no record and Pellham has a one-step lean, at equal winnability. Editors agree, and they say the agreement is only as strong as that one step. This is not a mandate. It is a refusal to treat a blank slate and a mildly better slate as the same choice. Both are fictional.
